Made by hand from the early 1600s, Dorset Buttons were shipped all over the world. This cottage industry, which employed over 4000 people, died out after the launch of a new button making machine at the Great Exhibition of 1851. However, the craft has been kept alive (primarily by WI and craft groups) and has seen a renewed interest in recent years.
Our kits include all you need to discover the craft of Dorset Button making for yourself. Each comes with easy to follow instructions in plastic-free packaging. They make perfect gifts for anyone wanting to experiment in a new field.
Each kit contains: three rings, needle, yarn and instructions.
